- ASHBOURNE U3A

ASHBOURNE u3a were proud to be part of the recent Mayors Recognition Awards 2024.

The Mayor, Councillor Anthony Bates, presented two of his awards to our awesome duo of Mavis Lund and Tony Walden for their unstinting support of Ashbourne u3a. They have both been members for many years and this month will celebrate the completion of their maximum nine years service on our Committee.

Mavis has been our ‘IT guru’ working tirelessly behind the scenes in managing the massive growth in the use of our website and all the myriad strands of its development.

Always with a smile and a gentle nudge in helping us to develop our skills even further.

Tony has had held the role of Treasurer for several years and more recently as Membership Secretary. When you remember that during this time the number of members has multiplied many times over it illustrates the sheer amount of work undertaken.

Thank you Mavis and Tony for EVERYTHING you have done for Ashbourne u3a.

We are hugely proud to have you as part of our organisation and hope you continue to enjoy your membership for many years to come.

The past week has been a bit of a challenge for some of our outdoor groups, but it was lovely to hear from the Walking Group that they have been out on manoeuvres again.

The Wednesday walk round Thorpe from the Okeover Arms at Mapleton went well despite the rain and mud and mud and mud! Big thanks to two of the group for leading this walk. Fifteen members attended the session and the photos show there were lots of gaps between the showers.

The broad smiles illustrate how much enjoyment everyone had from sharing their muddy adventures.

As with all our activities group leaders take great care to assess any possible safety concerns and ensure all walkers are suitably equipped and supervised.

Finally just a reminder that anyone wanting to join the Theatre Group on their forthcoming visits need to check in with the leaders Pauline and Peter to ensure there are seats available.

We know lots of people may want to attend Sister Act in April and The Pirates of Penzance in July but ticket availability is limited.
