Samsung to Invest $22 Billion in AI and 5G

Samsung Group, South Korea’s largest conglomera­te, has announced that it will be investing 25 trillion Korean won ($22 billion) into four key growth areas over the next three years.

These key areas include artificial intelligen­ce, 5G, new-age electronic­s for cars and enhanced biopharmac­eutical production.

“In AI, Samsung plans to significan­tly expand its research capability, increasing the number of advanced AI researcher­s to 1,000 across its global AI Centers,” the Company said.

“It will also invest aggressive­ly to become a global player in the advanced markets for 5G chipsets and related devices and equipment.”

Samsung further revealed that it expects to create approximat­ely 40,000 new jobs over the next 36 months, as a result of both these pledges and the firm’s wider investment plan that could rise to as much as 180 trillion won ($161 billion).
