TOM OF FINLAND
Celebrate the centenary of artist Tom of Finland’s birth by walking in his footsteps in Helsinki, where he lived for most of his life. Happy Guide Helsinki’s Tom of Finland Experience starts at the city’s Klaus K hotel, where a music- driven retrospective of his career is presented — this includes video interviews in which Tom discusses his inspiration and the meaning of his art. Afterwards, the tour takes to the streets of Helsinki. Today, Finland’s capital is very gayfriendly, but the guide will discuss the region’s less progressive past. If you plan to travel to LA, where Tom spent his last decade, you can visit his former home in Echo Park, which is filled with the artist’s sexy sketches, art and memorabilia and in 2016 was designated a Historic- Cultural Monument.
