Autocar

My favourite lookers

- Nick Tiley

There were lots of wonderful choices on your list of 100 Most Beautiful Cars (Autocar, 19 April). However, I would make some changes.

I’d include the original Mini Cooper instead of the 2001 model. I’d also have the current Aston Martin Vantage instead of either the Rapide or DB9, for its more athletic stance. The pre-war Ulster would replace the other newer Aston. And if the Audi TT is there, how about the Ford Focus Mk1, possibly the RS?

I’d drop the bloated Lamborghini Diablo and the TVR T350, which is an unhappy mix of curves and straight lines. There were some interesting American cars, but I’d drop the Pontiac GTO Judge. I would bring back the Datsun 240Z dropped from the 2002 list and add the Peugeot 406 Coupé, 1960s/1970s Opel GT and pre-war HRG1500.

I think I’ve ended up with 102 cars, so I’d have to go to the pub with some mates to haggle down to 100.
