Electric taxi sparks worldwide interest

-

THE LONDON ELECTRIC Vehicle Company (LEVC) has said there is strong overseas interest in its new TX electric taxi, after showcasing a German-spec model at the Frankfurt show.

LEVC, which recently changed its name from The London Taxi Company, has designed the TX to have worldwide appeal. The model can drive more than 400 miles via its electric motor and petrol range extender.

The TX at Frankfurt was painted in Eifelbein, a shade of beige required by German law from 1971 to 2005. However, most German taxis remain painted in the colour.

LEVC has taken a large order for the TX from Rotterdam and says it has interest from other European cities. European TX models will be built at LEVC’S new, purpose-built electric-car facility in Coventry.

LEVC is also building a factory in Yiwu, China, to build TX variants for that country. The company says it has had interest from highend Chinese hotels to use the TX as courtesy shuttles.
