Does discount KO tax hike?

MY local Audi dealer is offering a discount on a new A6. The list price with the options I’ve picked is £41,000, but with the discount I can get the car for £39,500. Am I still liable to pay the new £310 tax supplement? Alf Hawking, E-mail YES. The £310 annual five-year supplement that applies from 1 April to all cars priced above £40,000 doesn’t take dealer discounts into account. But it does include any options fitted, so it may be worth considering whether you need all the extras you’ve specified.

Reject a car after two years

I BOUGHT a Vauxhall Adam on a PCP two years ago. There’s still 12 months of the contract left, but I’ve now noticed it’s powered by a 1.4-litre petrol engine when it was advertised as having a 1.2-litre. Am I able to reject it? Steve North, E-mail IT seems unlikely that you’d get out of the finance agreement because this is something you should have brought up much earlier on. Instead, consider voluntarily terminating the PCP; you can do this if you’ve paid at least half of the total amount payable.

Changed mind over GLC

I RECENTLY ordered a new Mercedes GLC and put down a £1,000 deposit. But I’ve since read about the judder issues and am considering cancelling my deal. Can I do so without any financial penalties? Nigel Bloomer, E-mail IF you’ve signed an order form and paid a deposit, you’ve legally committed to buy the car, so it will be difficult to walk away. Talk to your dealer and Mercedes about your options, but you’re unlikely to get your deposit back.
