New rain-repelling formulas for your screen go head to head

AFTER years without the launch of a new rain-repelling glass cleaner, two have arrived within months of each other. First was Cödeclean Hydrophobic, which we tested in Issue 1,452. It has now been joined by Rainguard from Automate, the new venture from hide specialist Liquid Leather.

We applied both to a swept area of windscreen and also to rear glass without a wiper, and monitored them over five weeks. We also used them to clean road grime-covered glass, plus factored in the makers’ prices at the time of writing.

These aren’t the easiest glass cleaners to use, but if you want to apply a rain repellent at the same time Automate narrowly gets our vote. It cleans as well as the Cödeclean, plus the coating lasts as long, at half the price.
