Tariff-free deal key to Toyota UK future

TOYOTA is urging the Government to prioritise a free-trade agreement with the EU following its £240million investment in its manufacturing plant in Burnaston, Derbyshire.

The investment allows further production of vehicles on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform, which underpins the latest Prius. But the plant can only remain competitive, and the investment worthwhile, if ministers can strike a tariff-free deal with the EU.
