Will my road tax change?
NOT initially. Although Emissions Analytics estimates that CO2 emissions – on which Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) rates are based – will be around 20 per cent higher on WLTP testing, the results won’t be applicable to all cars immediately.
Instead, until 2020, results from NEDC testing will be used for VED purposes. This is because the 2020 target of 95g/km of CO2 km is based on the NEDC test. From 2021, CO2 targets will be based on the WLTP cycle, so we could see a new road tax structure, or new car buyers will face higher rates.
