DOUBLE-CAB 4x4 pick-ups are gaining popularity thanks to their tax-friendly status, and Renault is set to join the fold later this year with its Alaskan.

As the company is a manufacturing partner with Nissan, it has simply plucked the Navara from the Japanese firm’s range and given it some Renault style.

That’s no bad thing – Mercedes is also using the Navara for the basis of its own X-class pick-up (Page 43) – and the Alaskan should easily be competitive with its rivals and a hit among buyers wanting a tax-friendly truck. VOLKSWAGEN will introduce the option of seven seats to its SUV line-up for the first time later this year with the Tiguan Allspace. The new crossover has a 110mm-longer wheelbase than the standard Tiguan, and as a result, there’s more rear legroom and increased boot space on offer. The third row of seats will be available as an extra.

As with the regular compact SUV, there will be petrol and diesel engines available, plus 4MOTION four-wheel drive is standard on higher-spec models in the range.

FOLLOWING the success of the Giulia, Alfa Romeo is readying a larger executive saloon to compete with the BMW 5 Series. It’ll use an enlarged version of the Giulia’s platform and the same range of engines.

Our exclusive image previews a sharp look to echo the smaller Giulia, while a flagship Quadrifoglio variant is likely to use the same Ferrari-engineered tech to take on cars like the Mercedes-amg E 63. WHILE the Macan (Page 53) gets a nip and a tuck, the next Porsche Cayenne will be all-new. Not that you’ll be able to tell from the outside, because as our spy shot shows, the SUV will look similar to the current car.

It’s under the skin where the big changes are happening; the new Cayenne will be underpinned by the same platform as the Audi Q7 and Bentley Bentayga. As well as diesel and hybrid versions, we can expect a Turbo model that will challenge the Bentayga for the title of world’s fastest SUV. CROSSOVERS are as popular with buyers as hatchbacks these days, so it’s no wonder the high-performance crossover is becoming a regular on the market.

Audi is readying a rapid version of its Q2 called the SQ2, and it’s set to get the same suite of subtle styling updates as other S-badged models, from quad exhausts to a satin silver finish for the wing mirrors and C-pillar blades. You can expect quattro four-wheel drive and a 306bhp 2.0 TFSI turbo fourcylinder engine lifted from the S3 hot hatch, too.
