Black box data inaccurate

MY son’s insurer says the telematics box on his Ford Fiesta recorded him driving at 20mph above the speed limit, but he denies it. The firm has told us that his premium will go up as a result. Is there anything we can do? Susanne Eller, E-mail

CONTACT your son’s insurer and ask it to check the data on the box to make sure it’s correct. You can also ask it to send over a technician to inspect the box. If neither finds in your favour, you’ll have to pay the higher premium unless you can prove otherwise.

Fit for four-legged friend?

I’VE just become a dog owner for the first time and am wondering if my Volvo V70 is suitable for transporting it. Are there are any modifications I need to make to the car when driving with the dog on board? Andrew Tompkins, E-mail

ACCORDING to the Highway Code, dogs should be “suitably restrained” in a vehicle so they cannot distract you while driving, or injure themselves or others if you have to stop quickly. A harness or a cage fitted in the rear of your V70 should do the trick.

Sub-standard car woes

A FEW weeks ago, I bought a second-hand car from a dealer. One of the lights wasn’t working, but now some other things, such as the steering, have gone wrong as well. Is the dealer required to fix them? Daniel Hammond, E-mail

IF the dealer didn’t advertise these faults, or failed to mention them, then under the Consumer Rights Act it is required to fix them, because the car wasn’t in the condition it was advertised and is of unsatisfactory quality.
