AFTER the excitement of revealing its new orange colour scheme, Mclaren’s pre-season testing efforts were a shambolic start to the post-ron Dennis era. A last-minute oil-tank redesign was required and Alonso claimed a 30km/h top-speed deficit on the straights. Ongoing mechanical issues prevented the Spaniard and new Belgian team-mate Stoffel Vandoorne from getting meaningful running, so although the chassis looks a fundamentally sound design, the outcome of Mclaren’s season once again rests with Honda’s engineers.
