Preventing misfuelling Q MY wife has a petrol car and I have just switched to a diesel. We drive both cars and I’m worried about filling up with the wrong fuel. Any tips to prevent this? Roger Allardyce, E-mail A THE most common mistake is to put petrol in a diesel. There are a number of devices to prevent this. Try Fuel Angel (£39.99, www.misfuelling prevention.co.uk) or Solodiesel (right, £39.99, www.solodi es elm is fuel ling prevention. co.uk). Remember, if you realise you have misfuelled, don’t even turn the key before getting help. Tips for first track day Q I’M thinking of taking my car on a track day. I’ve never driven on a circuit before and am worried about faster cars. Do you have any advice on making my track debut? Gary Pearce, E-mail A FIRST, select a venue that would best suit you. Preferably it should be close as you don’t need a long drive at each end of the day. Airfields are good places to start as there is usually plenty of run-off if you make a mistake, and look out for novice track days where you will be with other beginners. Apply wax with fingers? Q A FRIEND told me that some detailing enthusiasts apply wax using their fingers. Is this more effective and should I be worried about getting rashes if I do it? Paul Mosely, E-mail A SOME detailers prefer to apply wax with the fingers or palms, but there is a risk of applying too much as the tips cover a small area. You can wear nitrile gloves to prevent any risk of contamination. This is time consuming, though, and a foam applicator will apply the required thin layer of wax quicker.
