Tax threshold query

I’M about to buy a new Volvo XC60. I’ve specced my car up to £39,800, but the delivery charge will take it over £40,000. Does this mean I will have to pay the £310 supplement for five years on top the annual £140 car tax? David Farmer, E-mail YES. According to the Driver and Vehicle Licencing Agency, cars with a list price over £40,000 will incur the extra £310 charge. The DVLA says that the list price includes all options fitted and delivery charges, as well as any pre-delivery inspection fees.

Diesel update required?

I OWN a diesel Volkswagen Tiguan and have just been informed that it needs the ‘Dieselgate’ software update done. I’ve heard this has led to problems with other owners. Is it a legal requirement to have it done? Simone Moore, E-mail BECAUSE the fix isn’t safety related, it’s not mandatory to have it done. However, we would advise doing so, as otherwise you’ll invalidate your warranty. Resale values may also be affected. VW says just one per cent of owners have reported problems.

Kia’s clutch slips up

THE clutch in my 2016 Kia Sorento has started to slip. It’s done 11,800 miles and I’m now told it needs replacing at a cost of £1,110. I feel the clutch is not fit for purpose, but how can I prove this? Ray Lobacz, E-mail AS the clutch is a wear and tear item, its lifespan is dependent on use. Heavy acceleration or frequent hill-starts can bring premature wear. If you think a manufacturing fault exists, have it independently inspected.
