Updated X-trail gets fresh look, more tech
THE Nissan X-trail has been given a mid-life facelift, gaining a subtle new look, extra kit and fresh tech. It will go on sale in August.
It follows a similar update to the Qashqai earlier this year, and the design alterations are subtle. Changes at the front include a wider grille, plus a revised front apron with gloss black inserts and new rectangular foglamps. In addition, the headlight clusters have been revised, with the LED units now boasting adaptive functions for the first time, too. Changes around the back include a new chrome strip in the bumper, plus upgraded LED tail-lights. Two new wheel designs feature, alongside four fresh paint colours.
Inside, Nissan has fitted a new steering wheel, as well as gloss black trim on the air vents. The new wheel can be ordered with a heating function, and heated seats are available in the back for the first time.
Revised interior packaging means that the boot space on the five-seat version has been improved by 15 litres to 565 litres, and a foot-activated tailgate is also now available. Next year Nissan will introduce its PROPILOT semi-autonomous tech to the X-trail. This can steer, accelerate and brake the car in traffic and at cruising speeds, plus there is emergency braking with pedestrian detection and rear cross-traffic alert.
The engine line-up remains the same as before, so there’s a choice of two diesels and one petrol. Nissan has yet to reveal prices, but expect a slight hike over the current car’s £22,855 starting figure.
