FORD owners were among those who reported some of the fewest problems to us, but an 18th place finish for reliability doesn’t seem to reflect this.
A closer look shows that although reliability was ranked highly by owners, Ford struggled with build quality. Cars such as the Fiesta and the Focus have always been great to drive, and owners agree, scoring Ford 16th for ride and handling. It would have finished higher if its cars offered a smoother ride.
A 13th place in the engine and gearbox category is a great result and entirely deserved, as Ford’s 1.0-litre Ecoboost has impressed from day one. But although drivers find their engines quick and refined, fuel economy isn’t an area the brand excels in. They say interior fit and finish is in need of work and designs should be updated, too.
While cars such as the Fiesta are showing their age, buyers still find their infotainment good – scoring it a respectable 14th place. With a new Fiesta arriving later this year, Ford could be placing higher next year.
