11. Toyota

A Third-place finish for running costs was a highlight for Toyota this year. The brand was said to have fuel efficient cars – no doubt helped by the popularity of its hybrid models – and a dealer network that doesn’t feel overpriced by owners.
Elsewhere the Japanese car maker failed to live up to the same standards, often placing outside the top 10. It ranked 17th in the engine category, with drivers wishing for faster acceleration. A 19th place for interior and comfort suggests the brand needs to improve seat comfort and fit and finish inside to keep owners happier.
Driver dissatisfaction with sat-navs has dragged many manufacturers down in this year’s survey, but Toyota isn’t one of them. It scored well and was ranked 10th for infotainment, but buyers want a better audio system in the future. Toyotas have always been known for their dependability, and the brand finished eighth in the reliability category; it could have been higher had the build quality score not trailed.
