A RANKING of 21st in the engine and gearbox category doesn’t tell the whole story about Peugeot’s powertains, because running cost ratings show owners are very happy here, rating the maker fourth in the category.

But the company went on to score 23rd for practicality. Buyers said their cars didn’t have enough interior storage space – ranking them last in this area – plus they felt boot capacity could be better as well.

The French manufacturer also scored 23rd in interior and comfort, with owners wanting better driver’s seat visibility and rear legroom. But Peugeot came 17th for infotainment this year and with new cars such as the 3008 gaining market share, this score is likely to improve in the future.

Better ratings were found in the reliability and quality sector, with a 13th place finish, highlighted by the low number of problems reported by owners. With a more refined range of engines and better storage inside, Peugeot will only climb the rankings.
