IT says a lot about the current climate that a manufacturer with no diesel engines in its existing new car lineup finishes first for the engine and gearbox category.

Owners found Lexus’ engines provide among the strongest acceleration and best refinement on the market, a feat no doubt helped by the inclusion of hybrid power across the range. Futuristic models such as the RX also help Lexus take first place for exterior styling, with owners rating the cars highly for both looks and fit and finish.

Quality impressed inside as well. and the firm’s cars were praised for having the most comfortable seats. Fourth for interior tech is also good, with owners praising most aspects, but sat-nav quality could be improved.

Surprisingly, the hybrid engines aren’t seen as particularly strong on fuel, with owners ranking the manufacturer a low 16th for mpg and running costs. Servicing fees could have been lower, too. But this couldn’t stop Lexus topping the table.
