SUBARU may have lost out on a Driver Power podium due to its famous boxer powerplants. Owners found them noisy and ranked them seventh in the engine category, and 23rd place for running costs suggests their fuel economy didn’t impress.
But it should be noted that the low result in the latter category was also down to steep servicing costs. These are the only blots on an otherwise impressive copybook that includes more than one first place finish.
The firm was ranked top for practicality, with owners praising the amount of boot space and interior storage options, plus child-friendly features, in their Subarus. Ride and handling was a hard-fought category this year, but the brand takes top spot, thanks to excellent feedback on the smoothness of its cars. Steering and brakes also impressed Subaru drivers.
Owners ranked it second for interior and comfort, just losing out on the top spot due to lower scores in styling and fit and finish, along with seat comfort.
