THE new Jeep Compass enters into a very crowded class, and has its work cut out to beat the Peugeot 3008 and SEAT Ateca. It has the potential to find many happy buyers, though, on account of its handsome looks, practical interior and off-road kudos. This high-spec 2.0-litre diesel with an auto gearbox isn’t the one to go for, but in a more modest spec and with a more affordable price, the Compass could genuinely compete with cars like the Nissan Qashqai and Volkswagen Tiguan – albeit on the second tier behind our class leaders.
