Amazon planning to sell cars in UK?

-

ONLINE retailer Amazon is said to be planning a move into the European car trade, with reports suggesting that it will start selling cars online in the UK.

According to German media, the new online retail arm will be based in Luxembourg but start its operations in the UK. Amazon trialled a similar scheme in Italy where it partnered with Fiat Chrysler to sell the Fiat 500 and Panda on its Italian website, and is now said to be looking to sell across Europe.

According to German trade magazine, Automobilwoche, Amazon recently recruited Christoph Moeller, a motor industry expert at consultancy Oliver Wyman, to spearhead the project. Moeller told Automobilwoche: “At Amazon, I am overseeing the OEM business in the European market.” Amazon wouldn’t comment on whether it has plans to enter the European car market, or whether it’s looking to sell new and used cars.
