BEST USED LUXURY CAR RANGE ROVER

OUR PICK 2013 (63) 3.0 TD V6 Vogue SE, 69,000 miles, £39,890

THE demand for SUVS isn’t just limited to the new car market. With the trend for 4x4s showing no sign of slowing up, buyers’ interest in off-roaders extends to used cars, which is why luxury models like the Range Rover are now so appealing.

While customers in this area of the market don’t mind paying a little more, a used luxury car still has to deliver the right image, comfort and tech, and for the price of a new compact executive saloon you could pick up a well specced version of this British icon. The 255bhp 3.0-litre TD V6 engine is all you need, and Vogue SE trim brings plenty of bells and whistles, as you’d expect from the world’s best luxury SUV.

But it’s not just a great high-end 4x4; this is a great luxury car. The cabin oozes quality, with soft leather and expensive wood veneers covering most surfaces. The imperious driving position gives a reassuring feel of solidity, while the beautifully refined ride – thanks to the cushioning air suspension – slick eight-speed auto box and quiet cabin at a cruise mean you can cover hundreds of miles in a Range Rover without feeling it.

The split tailgate gives access to a massive 909-litre boot, plus you can add towing and off-road ability to its list of practical traits. It’s unlikely any Range Rover left the factory without a host of options, so with features such as rear TV screens and massaging seats, combined with the usual steep depreciation on new models, it means you can pick up a used Range Rover for less than £40,000 – or well under half of its showroom sticker price after just four years.

You might want to budget a little as contingency and ensure systems such as the infotainment and air suspension work properly, but focus on the level of opulence on offer here for a realistic level of cash and the lure of a Range Rover is hard to ignore.
