PORSCHE has added flagship GTS models to the 718 Cayman and Boxster line-ups. The driver-focused variants make use of a tuned 361bhp version of Porsche’s 2.5-litre turbocharged flat-four engine, and are the most powerful models in the ranges.

Both sit above the 718 S, and the 15bhp power upgrade from the 2.5-litre flat-four is down to the use of a new air intake system and a tweaked turbo. Despite the smaller unit, the new versions have a 35bhp advantage over the previous-generation Cayman and Boxster GTS, both of which featured a larger six-cylinder engine. A sixspeed manual gearbox comes as standard, but Porsche does offer a PDK dual-clutch auto as an option on both 718 GTS models.

When paired with the PDK, the GTS variants claim 0-62mph in 4.1 seconds and a 180mph top speed, as well as 34.4mpg fuel economy and 186g/km CO2 emissions.

Setting the newcomers apart are black exterior detailing, 20-inch satin alloys and black-tinted bi-xenon headlamps. Opting for the new flagship also brings a load of extra standard kit, including the Sport Chrono package, torque vectoring with rear limited-slip differential and Porsche Active Suspension management, which lowers the ride by 10mm. An Alcantara steering wheel, centre console and armrests feature as well.

Prices for the 718 Cayman and Boxster GTS start from £59,866 and £61,727 respectively; that’s a premium of £8,013 over the 718 S models.
