OVER the past 28 years, the Mazda MX-5 has become the byword for affordable fun. The second-generation model added more creature comforts, but stuck to the formula of being a comfortabl­e cruiser and a grininduci­ng sports car in a cost-effective package.

While no MX-5 is quick, the 1.8 offers up more useful everyday performanc­e, and there are loads about so prices still remain low. In the classified­s was an 85,000-mile, 2002 1.8 Arizona for £1,550.
