IT’S as close as you’ll get to the all-american pick-up truck experience in the UK, and the Ford Ranger has carved a niche for itself as a workhorse that offers the same tech you’ll find in the brand’s cars.

There are regular and Super Cab versions, but the Double Cab is the roomy choice, while 2.2 and 3.2-litre diesels are offered. The Wildtrak is as plush as an SUV inside, and as with all pick-ups, the one-tonne payload ensures the Ranger qualifies for flat-rate company tax.

Fuel economy isn’t great, particularly on the 3.2-litre versions, but there’s no arguing with that engine’s pulling power.
