27. RENAULT KOLEOS
UNLIKE the Nissan X-trail on which it’s based, the Koleos isn’t available with seven seats. Instead Renault has delivered maximum interior space for up to five people, and to good effect.
You can buy a front-wheel-drive Koleos with a 1.6-litre diesel, but we think it’s worth upgrading to the 2.0-litre dci for its extra mid-range pull and standard four-wheel-drive system. Opting for a Signature Nav-spec Koleos also brings an 8.7-inch portrait touchscreen. Price range: £27,500-£34,200 Our pick: Signature Nav dci 175 (£32,700) Engine: 2.0-litre 4cyl diesel, 173bhp Transmission: 6-spd man, permanent 4x4 Top speed: 126mph Economy: 50.4mpg CO2: 148g/km
