THE Amarok is getting on a bit now, but a recent facelift has given it a fresh lease of life. Volkswagen’s first full-size pick-up is one of the best, and the new V6 diesel is brilliantly smooth and torquey.
It also allows it to tow 3.1 tonnes, but there are better workhorse pick-ups out there. Instead, the Amarok offers an Suv-like driving experience. The new engine means it is one of the most refined pickups on the market, and it’s just as happy cruising on the motorway as it is climbing a mountain. Combine that with a solid and practical interior, tidy handling and a composed ride, and it’s not hard to see why the Amarok is such a popular truck. It’s rather expensive, mind.
