AUDI’S Q7 was later on to the large SUV scene than rivals, although that didn’t stop it being a big success.

Not everyone is a fan of the Mk1’s styling, but the well thought-out and superbly made interior makes up for it. Like the Discovery it has seven seats; it just lacks the off-road ability to be a true all-rounder. It handles better than rivals, but comes with the same 3.5-tonne tow limit. The diesel engine is excellent. For £14,950 you can find a 2009 3.0 TDI S line with 70,000 miles.
