Volkswagen e-golf
THE clocks have gone back and the mornings are noticeably colder now than they were when our VW e-golf arrived in late summer. But while custodian John Mcilroy has noticed a slight drop-off in range, it’s not sufficient enough to keep him awake at night worrying about it.
Deputy editor John swears he saw 190 miles of predicted range back in August, but now the car is pretty steady at around 130 when it’s fully charged. That’s still more than enough for his regular commute – even with a run along the M3 motorway. It’s all about having confidence in the car’s systems to be accurate – and John had established that line of trust after only a few trips in the electric Volkswagen hatchback.
He’s still struggling to get his head around the e-golf’s profile functions, though. In theory, these allow a number of users to set up preferences that are automatically loaded every time they use their key. But despite John’s best efforts, he’s been unable to get the system to remember his ideal temperatures; instead, the car resets the driver and passenger to 22 degrees and ‘Eco’ respectively.
