NEW BRIDGESTONE TYRE SET TO BE A WINNER IN THE WET
NEW PRODUCT Bridgestone Turanza T005
THE New Year sees the arrival of the Bridgestone Turanza T005, one of the most important tyres in the Japanese giant’s range. Designed as a touring tyre, it will cover almost all the sector with 140 sizes for 14-21-inch rims by the end of 2019.
Its launch will also see Bridgestone simplifying its touring line-up with the T005 and Driveguard run-flat – a former Auto Express Product of the Year – the only offerings in the segment.
The T005 replaces Bridgestone’s T001 EVO, which finished in a promising third place in this year’s Auto Express tyre test after lacklustre performances from its predecessor.
If the T005 delivers similar gains in performance then it will be fighting for the win. The signs are good because the range has the top A grade in the European tyre label ratings for wet grip, with most versions scoring B for fuel economy. Some sizes have achieved double A ratings in the two categories.
Bridgestone also got independent testing body TÜV SÜD to compare the T005 with rivals from Michelin, Continental, Goodyear and Pirelli. It said the new tyre was best for wet lateral grip and braking. Wet performance was one of the key targets for the T005, which has a tread optimised for water drainage with wide, longitudinal grooves. It also has a new compound with revised mixing of the high-silica mix to minimise wear, while maximising wet grip and fuel economy.
