Halfords LED Digital Tyre Pressure Gauge and Light Price: £17.99 Rating: ★★★ Contact: 0845 057 9000, www.halfords.com

THIS unit had only three scales and the backlit display was activated automatically when placed on the valve. We liked the aluminium body’s highquality feel, but the small-scale slider was a bit flimsy. Accuracy was 0.5psi adrift at the two lower points, but we’d expect better for the price. The reading stayed live for 10 seconds and the display for nine seconds more; too quick to be practical.

Sealey Digital Tyre Pressure Gauge TSTPG10 Price: £6.98 Rating: ★★★ Contact: 01284 757500, www.sealey.co.uk

LIGHTWEIGHT and easy to use, it was 1psi and 0.5psi up at 20/25psi, so it could have been a little more accurate. The nozzle didn’t always fit neatly on to the valve, often leading to air loss. The non-backlit display was clear enough, but small. There was no nose light, but a warning beep sounded as it locked onto the valve. It stayed live for a useful 33 seconds after the reading.

Silver Line Digital Tyre Pressure Gauge282526 Price: £6.70 Rating: ★★★ Contact: 01935 382222, www.silverlinetools.com

A SIMPLE, no-frills, well priced gauge. Instructions were clear, but didn’t refer to the need for cool tyres or maker’s recommendations. Powered by two LR44 watch batteries, it lacked a backlight and nose illumination, but beeped as it registered the pressure. The large ‘on’ button was easy to use and the display stayed live for 32 seconds. It was 1psi over at 20/25psi and 0.5psi at 30psi.

Sakura Digital Tyre Gauges S3610 Price: £8.14 Rating: ★★ Contact: 01488 689400, www.saxon-brands.com

THIS four-scale unit appeared to be exactly the same as the Silverline, but there were differences. The instructions included the need to check the suggested pressures, but it didn’t beep as it gained a reading. The display was clear, if a little small, and lacked a backlight. It was 0.7psi high on all three readings, which could have been better, but it at least it over-read consistently.
