Door mirror device to protect cyclists
A SURVEY of 1,500 cyclists found 85 per cent have experienced a parked car door being opened into the road or cycle lane, causing a hazard.
To prevent this, Semcon has come up with the Life Sticker, which sits on the door mirror (above) and lights up when it detects the movement of a cyclist or a signal from their phone. As it’s solar-powered, there’s no wiring.
Semcon aims to produce the Life Sticker, currently in prototype, for less than two euros each. Find out more at www.semcon.com/lifesticker.
Youngsters’ tips on classic maintenance
A NEW charity has been set up to teach young people how to use and maintain a classic. Bicester Heritage in Oxfordshire, home to Banbury and Bicester College’s Historic Vehicle Restoration Apprenticeship Scheme, has registered the Startermotor, which provides young enthusiasts with classic cars to work on.
In partnership with the college, the charity will provide vehicles from its own fleet to give students first-hand experience using and maintaining these classic vehicles. For details, log on to www.startermotor.com.
