THE SL range is compact, and while it seems strange to say a £75,000-plus roadster is the ‘entry-level’ model, this SL 400 really is the bottom rung of the ladder. Above this sit the SL 500 and SL 63 AMG versions.

AMG Line is your only trim choice here, so by putting down a £10,000 deposit on the same terms as the Lexus, you’ll be looking at more affordable monthly payments of £775, due to Mercedes’ healthy £11,031 deposit contribution.

This relative lack of choice means you might want to spend a little more time looking at the options list to equip the SL with the perfect level of kit for you.

We’d recommend adding the Airscarf feature to prolong your time with the roof down, but otherwise the car comes loaded with features. However, the Lexus is still the better choice overall.
