MUST TRY HARDER...
RENAULT
EVEN the arrival of a refreshed Captur small SUV couldn’t prevent a drop of almost 19 per cent for Renault, with just over 69,000 registrations. New turbo petrol engines should help it fight back.
VAUXHALL
NEW owner PSA wants Vauxhall to focus on profit, not volumes. That’s just as well, with sales figures down by 22 per cent. Sister brands Peugeot and Citroen also suffered doubledigit drops.
FIAT
HEAVY reliance on just a couple of models is starting to hurt Fiat. ‘Seasonal’ tweaks to its 500 couldn’t help it to avoid a sales slide – down by nearly 27 per cent – to fewer than 45,000 cars.
JEEP
THE Renegade was a sales hit in 2016, but Jeep struggled to match its performance last year and the US brand’s figures were down by more than 54 per cent, to just 6,380 units.
