Renault Koleos
score 3.7
R-link 2 Standard Key features: Portrait display screen, sat-nav
THIS Signature Nav-spec Koleos comes with an 8.7-inch portrait-style touchscreen. There’s a Tomtomsourced sat-nav fitted as standard, which includes live traffic and European mapping. As with the newer Rexton, you also get DAB radio and Bluetooth, with both Android Auto and Apple Carplay offered, too.
However, the integration isn’t as good as the Ssangyong’s system: instead of the smartphone link filling the screen, it uses a tiny landscape box in the middle. It looks like an afterthought, and with the screen not being the most responsive, it’s not as easy to use, either. The fact that you have to use the display to adjust the air-conditioning controls is irritating.
One of the better aspects of the Renault’s set-up is the seven-inch TFT screen that is fitted behind the steering wheel. This displays driving data instead of there being traditional dials in the panel.
Screen Portrait-orientated display is smaller than Rexton’s and features Tomtom sat-nav and DAB radio. Tiny phone link screen disappoints, though
FOR AND AGAINST
Large screen, modern design, smartphone integration standard
Fiddly interface, tiny smartphone link display, frustrating to use on the move
