Q Wary of Adblue refills

I’M looking for a diesel-powered car as I drive more than 20,000 miles a year, but I am wary of those that require Adblue. How often will I need to refill the Adblue tank? Stephen Milne, E-mail

A

JUST like fuel consumption, this will vary from car to car and on the way you drive. For many drivers, Adblue only needs topping up (above) at the regular service intervals. Your mileage may mean you need to fill up between checks, but this is no more trouble than refuelling. Expect to pay about £15 for 10 litres.

Q Part-worn tyre dilemma

MY car needs some new tyres and I’m tempted to buy a set of part-worns to save money. Is this a good idea? Tony Moreton, E-mail

A

PROVIDING the tyres meet legal requirements for tread depth and damage, they may provide a temporary solution. But you’ll be replacing them much sooner than if you bought a new set. The saving may not be all it seems, either, as road safety charity Tyresafe reckons the cost per millimetre for a part-worn tyre is around 20 per cent more than for a new one.

Q Paint protection worth it?

IS it worth spending the £400-£600 I’ve been quoted to get ceramic paint protection applied to the new BMW i3 I’ve just ordered, and does it really last 10 years? Richard James, E-mail

A

WE haven’t tested these products so can’t comment on their durability or value for money. Only you can decide if the cost is worthwhile, but if you want a ceramic coating have it applied by a detailer after you’ve taken delivery of the car. This allows you to choose the right product for you rather than only what the dealer is offering.
