Which fabric protector spray reigns on stains?

Gtechniq has revised its L1 Smart Fabric. To see howw it performs we tested it against our reigninggning champion, Gyeon Q2 Fabric Coat. We applied both to the maker’s instructions on a car seat before trying to stain the fabric with cola, hot coffee and butter.

The new L1 Smart Fabric put up an improved performance over our last test, but it still isn’t as effective as the pricier Gyeon. Even so, those looking for a less costly alternative will do well to consider Gtechniq’s latest formula.

THESE Armor All wipes were 375 sq cm, similar to those from Carplan, but smaller than the other brands. Although a bit fiddly, the Smart Seal Twist and Lock cap helped keep them moist. The wipes were okay for our tests, but you might find that one isn’t enough, while two are too many. However, their smell was orangey and cleaning power extremely effective, lifting up the two most difficult stains – CV grease and biro – with ease. They also left an attractive matt finish.

OUR tougher test didn’t suit this former winner. Like others in the Carplan range, these are also available in soft packs of 20 and in cup-holder-sized mini-tubs of 20. With no texture to aid our efforts, removing all the stains from the fabric required some hard work, and the wipes were wrecked when we’d finished. By the end of our minute, the food stains were gone, but there were still traces of the CV grease and biro marks. Despite being specific upholstery wipes, they did very well on the dashboard. The price was joint second cheapest, but the wipes lacked firepower.
