Updated Updat styling and new tech for big-seller
HYUNDAI chose the New York show for the debut of an updated version of its global best-seller, the Tucson. It gets mild exterior tweaks, new driver aids and goes on sale in the UK this summer.
As is usual with a mid-life facelift, cosmetic changes are modest and limited to new full-led headlights, a redesigned bumper and skid plate. The rear sees new tail-lights, along with a new bumper and exhaust tip.
There is a seven-inch infotainment system inside, which can support Apple Carplay and Android Auto. A larger eightinch display is also available, offering 3D maps and a seven-year subscription to LIVE services, including updated realtime traffic information. Passengers in the rear get an extra USB port, while other features include a Krell sound system and wireless QI phone charging.
Hyundai’s new rival to the Volkswagen Tiguan and Mazda CX-5 will be launched globally with a choice of five engines: three diesels and two petrols. The most powerful is the 183bhp 2.0-litre CRDI, which comes with four-wheel drive as standard. It will also feature a choice of six-speed manual and eight-speed automatic transmissions.
The current 113bhp 1.7-litre diesel will be replaced with a more fuel-efficient 1.6-litre diesel, with two power outputs: 113bhp or 131bhp. The latter will be the first motor available with Hyundai’s new seven-speed double-clutch gearbox. Petrol variants include a 113bhp 1.6 GDI and a 174bhp T-GDI. The more powerful turbo unit has the option of front or fourwheel drive, and can be ordered with the new seven-speed dual-clutch box.
The 113bhp non-turbo petrol engine comes as standard with front-wheel drive and a six-speed manual gearbox.
