Govt set to trial graduated licences
LEARNER drivers could face restrictions on the number of passengers they can carry in their vehicles after passing their test, as the Government moves closer to issuing newly qualified drivers with a graduated driving licence.
A letter written by roads minister Jesse Norman says proposed changes to the graduated driving licence (GDL) system in Northern Ireland will be used as a “pilot” scheme to gauge whether GDLS should be introduced across the UK.
In the letter, sent to Scottish SMP David Stewart, Norman wrote: “The Department for Transport has decided to use the introduction of GDL [graduated driving licence] in Northern Ireland as a pilot to gather evidence on the potential for GDL in Great Britain.” Although a tiered licence system already exists in Northern Ireland, authorities are currently in the second stage of a public consultation to change its structure.
New proposals would limit the number of passengers new drivers aged 24 and under can carry for the first six months after passing their driving tests. The proposals would also lift the 45mph limit new drivers in Northern Ireland are currently restricted to for the first year.
AUDI’S Vision GT is the kind of car that will convince even the most sceptical petrolheads about EVS. Its performance is parallel to most hardcore supercars and perfectly shows the potential of EVS.
