Q Fears over tyre shine cracks

A TYRE shine I used left cracks on the edges of the tyres and between tread blocks. Now I’m getting a new car and don’t want a repeat of this. What’s the safest shine to use? Jason Craig, E-mail

A CRACKS are usually seen as a tyre ages; you may experience it on any tyre over five years old. The cracking you witnessed is unlikely to be related to the tyre shine, which shouldn’t be applied to the tread anyway. Our favourite is Carplan Tyre Slik (above); it’s easy to apply, lasts a long time and is easy on the pocket.

Q Clear cloudy sat-nav screen

I HAD my car washed and interior cleaned at a site where people worked on it at the same time. One of them wiped the sat-nav screen, and now it is cloudy. What should I do? Ronald Slater, E-mail

A THE risk is the chemical used has damaged the screen by penetrating it or scratching the surface. If it’s just the result of a dirty cloth and the residue not being wiped off properly, then a glass cleaner should work. Spray on a cloth so as not to soak the controls, and use it on a small area first to see if it is working.

Q Best Waze to use phone nav

APPLE has said it will allow Waze and other apps to be used with Carplay in the autumn. Is there a head unit that allows me to use it now without looking at my iphone’s screen? Michael Lonnergan, E-mail

A LOOK for units like those in Pioneer’s AVH range where an Appradio mode lets drivers use Waze via the head display; just connect your phone via USB. This also means you don’t have to pay for a built-in sat-nav set-up. When Apple makes the changes to Carplay, you could then use that, as it is also included.
