New Mercedes GLE Coupé up and running
THIS is our first look at the all-new Mercedes GLE Coupé, ahead of the BMW X6 rival’s big unveil in 2019.
It keeps the old car’s raised body and sloping roof, with styling inspired by the forthcoming GLE SUV.
The camouflaged mule spotted testing by our spies is well covered, but it’s not enough to hide features such as the big grille and headlamps.
At the back, it looks as though the high bootlid will be reshaped with thinner LED tail-lights. The number plate sits on a smoother bumper, and twin exhaust pipes are integrated within the body.
Mercedes has also given us an official look inside the new car, with a revealing sketch (right). This suggests the firm will fit its latest MBUX infotainment, with a full-width central screen and digital dials. The GLE Coupé is expected to get the A-class’s augmented reality nav.
All cars will have a nine-speed auto box and 4MATIC all-wheel drive. A range of six-cylinder petrol and diesel motors is expected, plus hotter AMG versions. Prices should start from around £65,000.
