The Type R’s interior isn’t a high point, because the cluttered dashboard isn’t very intuitive. Still, there’s lots of room, with a good amount of storage in the centre console. Material quality is solid, but no match for the plusher Golf R’s.

INFOTAINMENT Civic’s standard seven-inch touchscreen display is a frustrating unit that has illogical menus and an often-unresponsive display. Still, you do get Android Auto, Apple Carplay and sat-nav, plus wireless phone charging.
