Score
There are some pricey options for the Golf R, but everything that you really need is included as standard. The highquality materials, clean dashboard design and spacious feel mean the VW’S interior is better than its rival’s.
INFOTAINMENT The Golf gets VW’S Active Info Display and an eight-inch touchscreen Discover Navigation system as standard. It’s very easy to use and feels a generation ahead of the rather frustrating set-up in the Honda.
OWNERSHIP
Golf R safety kit includes AEB, seven airbags and adaptive cruise control. Ours had the £1,225 Lane Assist Plus pack, which adds lane assist, rear traffic alert and blind spot monitoring.
PARKING A reversing camera is standard on the Honda, but it’s a £340 option on the Golf. Still, parking sensors are standard, so we’d skip that option anyway.
