FOR years London’s black cabs have been half-national icon, half-laughing stock. But with help from Chinese owner Geely, and under Chris Gubbey, The London Electric Vehicle Company (rebranded from the London Taxi Company) last summer got its range-extender hybrid cabs on to the capital’s streets. Gubbey has more than 35 years’ experience at Ford, GM and Toyota, and is now looking at further commercialisation of the TX5’S platform and tech. That could involve global exports and moving into commercial vehicles.
