THE hairs on everyone’s necks shot up when Lewis Hamilton fired up AMG’S Project One hypercar last September. And the team behind making a Formula One powertrain work in a road car is led by Andy Cowell. The day-to-day focus of his operation in Brixworth, Northants, is making powertrains strong enough to keep Hamilton at the front of the F1 grid, and 2017 saw the Brit secure his fourth title. But Cowell’s team is influencing road cars, too, such as the turbo tech in the A 45 AMG.
