Q

THE clutch on my four-year-old car failed after just 28,000 miles and a repair will cost me hundreds. Can I ask the manufacturer for help, and should this happen after so few miles? Joanna Thompson, E-mail

A

CLUTCHES can and often do last much longer than this, but for one to go after four years and 28,000 miles is by no means unheard of. Unfortunately, as a wear and tear part, the clutch isn’t covered under warranty, although you could ask your dealer for a goodwill gesture towards repairs.
