THE new Dyson electric car is to be produced at a factory in Singapore, the company has confirmed – ending hopes for a British manufacturing site.

The UK firm has 400 staff working in a Wiltshire R&D centre on its EV. But it announced this week that the vehicle will be made in the Asian country, where Dyson already has a factory producing digital motors.

Construction will start in December and the new plant will be completed in 2020, in line with Dyson’s plans to start selling its electric vehicle by 2021.

In a letter to staff, Dyson’s CEO Jim Rowan said: “Singapore offers access to high-growth markets, as well as an extensive supply chain and a highlyskilled workforce. It has a comparatively high cost base, but also a strong bias towards developing and using advanced technologies.

“It is therefore the right place to make high-quality, technology-loaded machines, and the right place to make our electric vehicle,” Rowan added. VAUXHALL’S hot Vxr-badged models have been slowly killed off, with the latest one being the Corsa VXR.

In their places are toned down, less in-your-face models called GSI. The new Corsa GSI (above) looks like the VXR but has a lot less power. Is it a top hot hatch? Steve Sutcliffe finds out.

Take a close look at new BMW 3 Series

THE BMW 3 Series (above) was my star of the Paris Motors Show when it was revealed a few weeks ago. Not due to the way it looks, but because it’s set to go straight to the top of the compact executive class.

Before the official reveal, we had some time in a studio with the new 3. Here’s our in-depth walkaround.
