NEW PRODUCT WRC 8

Available for: PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch Price: £39.99 Release: Out now

THE FIA World Rally Championship is reaching its conclusion, and now fans can relive all the action from the comfort of their own homes with the release of WRC 8 – the officially licensed video game.

The game’s developers claim that it’s the “most complete and authentic official WRC simulation ever made”, with new offroad physics on all surfaces. It also has a redesigned career mode, plus extreme weather conditions that require you to constantly tweak your driving style.

The official licensing allows WRC 8 to offer gamers the opportunity to race for 52 teams in 14 countries across 100 special stages, as well as weekly online challenges and even an eSports mode.

This year’s version of the game also adds a selection of legendary rally cars to the already generous selection of modern

WRC, WRC 2 and Junior WRC models available. These classics include the legendary Lancia Stratos, Ford Escort RS1800 and 1973 Alpine A110.

Most players will plough the bulk of their time into the career mode, and this is where the biggest overhaul has happened, with a season now about so much more than on-stage ability.

Players need to select their crew, including mechanics, fitness trainers, finance managers and engineers, to ensure they’re best-placed to take victory. They’ll earn points, which can be used to upgrade their staff’s skills, while an in-depth calendar also allows them to tailor their schedule to maximise their performance.
