“Peugeot’s new hypercar will use hybrid power and carry roadcar styling cues”

PEUGEOT has announced that it will join forces with leading privateer sportscar team Rebellion Racing for its return to Le Mans and the World Endurance Championship, from the start of the 2022-23 season.

The French manufacturer recently confirmed its return to the top flight of endurance racing for the first time since 2011, while Rebellion Racing has been active in the WEC since the world championship began in 2012. The Anglo-Swiss squad recently won the 4 Hours of Shanghai.

Peugeot has also released a concept image giving an idea of what the Peugeot-Rebellion Le Mans ‘Hypercar’ will look like. It’s set to use hybrid power and will carry styling cues from Peugeot’s road cars.

Peugeot CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato said: “We were delighted to see how warmly the recent announcement of our participation in the series was welcomed. Rebellion’s proven passion, quest for perfection and performance credentials fit perfectly with Peugeot’s own values.”

Further details of the programme are set to emerge in early 2020, when technical co-operation between the two organisations begins in earnest. According to Peugeot’s motorsport director Jean-Marc Finot, the combined squad will be based out of a single location at Peugeot motorsport headquarters in Satory near Paris. This weekend, Rebellion Racing, Toyota, Ginetta and the rest of the WEC grid will be on track for the 8 Hours of Bahrain, the fourth of eight rounds of the 2019-20 season. This will be followed by a day’s testing.

It has also been announced that the subsequent round in Brazil has been replaced with a visit to the Circuit of the Americas in Texas, due to the Brazilian promoter failing to meet its contractual obligations. The CotA round will take place on the weekend of 22-23 February.
